Talya Amira is a vocalist, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist based in Montreal, Quebec. She blends lush vocal arrangements, thoughtful lyrics, and evocative harmony to bring her listeners deep into her universe. While her music draws from a multitude of genres and influences, she manages to weave her essence through it all.

Talya’s relationship with music began like that of many others: through forced piano lessons as a child. She spent many years throwing tantrums and counting down the time she had left to complete the seven year minimum she had agreed to. However, when the time was up, she came to an unexpected realization - she couldn’t imagine not playing. In a classic case of not realizing what was under her nose the whole time, she embraced her passion for music. It was then she began teaching herself guitar and voice, at first just enough to be able to play her favourite pop punk songs (it was the 2000s after all). Over the course of the following years she began to take an interest in a diverse range of genres..

After she developing a bad case of tendonitis in both her arms, rendering her unable to play piano, Talya was faced with a tough decision. She knew she wanted to pursue post-secondary education in music, and decided to take a chance and audition for CEGEP in jazz voice. By some miracle, she was accepted, thus beginning an incredible journey of opening her expression in a whole new way. During this time, she played shows around the city leading the Talya Gad Band. At first they exclusively played jazz, then moved onto covers, and as she felt ready, she wove her own original music into the mix. Slowly but surely, she developed a repertoire of original tunes.

Talya later moved to Toronto to earn her Bachelor of Music at Humber College. Throughout those challenging years, she began to truly grow into herself and developed an authentic artistic voice. It was then that Talya Amira came to be. She realized she was hiding behind a band in order to shield her vulnerability, and saw how that was working against her. In fall 2019, she began to work on her debut EP “About the Weather” set to be released October 9th, 2020. “About the Weather” is part of a two-EP release which explores Talya’s experiences navigating the world in her early twenties through the lens of love, betrayal, heartbreak and self-discovery. The counterpart to “About the Weather” will be released in February 2021.

She hopes to create space for her listeners to dive into their individual human experiences using her joys, hardships, and even moments of stillness as a vehicle.
